With the model 01+, OQO has ushered in the era of the ultra-portable computer--the uPC. The model 01+ is an astoundingly small, full-featured Windows XP machine--it weighs only 0.88 pounds (398g) and measures 4.9" x 3.4" x .9" (12.4 x 8.6 x 2.3cm). To get an idea how small this is, fold a standard A4 sheet of paper (regular copy paper) into a quarter of its size; the model 01+ is has a footprint that is slightly smaller than this, and it is less than an inch thick. It fits almost anywhere.
But clearly, the 01+ is well conceived beyond just its small size. In addition to a touch screen, there is a thumb-driven pointing device and scrollwheel. One of the handiest features is the slide-out thumb-driven keyboard. The 01+ also features integrated Bluetooth and Wifi. And of course, because one of the underlying design principles is easy docking for home and office, docking is easy. The included docking cable can be left on your desk with monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, and all your peripherals attached.
Additional specs include a Transmeta 1ghz CPU, 512mb RAM, and shock-mounted 30gb HDD that will automatically park the drive if freefall is detected, reducing the chance of lost data. (Please note that this is not a guarantee that the unit, or HDD data, will survive a drop.) There is also integrated 802.11b and USB 2.0. Its small size also necessitates a small battery, yet the model 01+ is able to achieve a 3-hour (optimal manufacturer list time) battery life.
