The Vega measures 6.3 x 3.1 x 1.1" (160 x 80 x 27.5mm) and weighs 1.06 lb [480g] with the enhanced battery attached. You just read some numbers on a screen--to get an idea how small this device really is, one almost needs measure it out. (The enhanced battery, rather than the standard, is included with the base package. With the standard battery, the weight drops to 0.77 lb [350g].) The Vega actually CAN be stuffed into a jeans pocket, comfortably put on a belt-clip, or easily mounted in a car.
The Vega features a 4.3" 840x480 touchscreen TFT and runs full Windows XP Home utilizing an AMD Geode LX800 500mhz processor and 30gb HDD. It is fanless and silent. There is a lock-button to prevent accidental operation, and a disc-shaped external pointer designed to allow use of the Vega while standing. The Vega has integrated VGA-out with included dongle.
Windows XP takes about 60 seconds to load and performs amply. This performance is pretty brisk considering; it probably stems from a dual-chipset design that has a secondary processor handling memory, peripheral, and graphics functions. Office, internet, and navigation applications run great. But, the Vega is not designed for gamers.
If you connect the Vega, while in standby mode, to our other PC it becomes an external USB 2.0 HDD. Obviously, this is an incredibly fast and convenient way to load programs and media. And we wonder: why carry around an external USB drive at all, when you have an the entire computer at about the same size?
