I do not know as to how many of you had seen the finals basketball between our school team and IHS, Dubai, during Sportsfest 2006. It was a closely contested match. We, with all our shortcomings and our Ace player not in form, our "Lamboo" (Pardon me, if it hurts him!) being covered, we won the match convincingly. Congrats, the team.
Coming to the point I wish to make, during the match, the guest team almost walked over and sat on their benches. In boxing, they say, "throw-in the towel". Was it the correct behavior of any team? Basketball is one such game, which is fast, the field is narrow and the refrees do make mistakes. But those things are to be taken in the spirit of game and play must go on.
Such attitudes do not go well with any team, for that matter. My only submission will be that if at all our teams in their visits outside our campus comes under such feelings while playing crucial matches, must not behave that way. Wins and Losses is not the be all and end all of sports. It is the willing participation and showing our competence in adverse surroundings (like in this final, we came with such force in fourth quarter, things came in our favor) is what matters.
Sir, i think you are right.... I can remember one same instance......We had gone fo a football match to TAISM.......and we lost the match...but we were happy to have at least matched their performance...was a narrow defeat...but when we were leaving school, some boys from our bus shouted comments, which was bad....tat led to our teams disqualification....i dunno whether it was fortunate or unfortunate...but our team surely learned a lesson...so i tink yea.......that team shud be disqualified for the next sports fest....
Great to see friends agreeing to my comments. Let us not become narrow minded in disqualifying that team. Let us call them again next festival, beat them hollow and show them what we are. If we can, we can.
U do have a pt. Bt theres also the fact that we miss behaved with them too. we shuldnt have negatively catcalled. this was prevented in the boyz final bt d gurls matchs did get dirty. So did the other skls matches. n we should invite the skl again. bt also wen the coachs after the award ceremony were offered their packets, the visitin coach threw his into the dustbin. talk abt spoilsport...........

im sorry if i was harsh on that.....yea we can call them next year to show what a true sports man spirit is.....but that coach thing...is really bad showcase....
Thought a lot abt this thing. Well, the very first thing I would like to say is that they need to realize the referees wern't from Indian School Muscat. And even if they were, we wouldn't behave in an unjust way.
Even if you are upset about the decisions (im talking about the students), you aren't suppose to show it that way. Infact, it is the duty of the coach to see that the students respect the game... BUT when your coach is supporting you with such behaviour, IT IS PATHETIC. Then, you can't blame the guys for it. This example is being set from the top.
And about the decisions, well maybe one or two decisions were a little errorneous, but this does not mean that there was any bias. Our very own Lamboo was on 4 fouls throughout the game (another foul would have thrown him out of the game), but he didnt react that way.
Its all about your temperament. I know it can get frustrating, but thats the last way one should behave. And if we start behaving that way, there is no difference left between us and UNCIVILIZED ANIMALS.
